Civil War center to host November 6 Signature Speaker Series lecture

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s George Tyler Moore Center for the Study of the Civil War is sponsoring the second lecture in its Signature Speaker Series. Dr. Peter S. Carmichael, Robert C. Fluhrer Professor of Civil War Studies and director of the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College, will speak on Tuesday, November 6, at 7 p.m. at the Robert C. Byrd Center for Congressional History and Education auditorium. This presentation is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase by cash or check only in the lobby of the Byrd Center that evening.

Carmichael serves on the Historians’ Council of the Gettysburg Foundation, is a Distinguished Lecturer for the Organization of American Historians, co-edits the Civil War America series published by the University of North Carolina Press, and oversees an annual conference at Gettysburg that draws approximately 200 attendees each year. Carmichael’s presentations can be seen on C-SPAN’s American History TV, and he has appeared in the Smithsonian Channel documentaries “Who Do You Think You Are?” and “Civil War 360.”
