Susan Carpenter

Susan Carpenter has been on the piano faculty at Shepherd University since Spring, 2006, teaching Applied students and Group Piano. She also acts as Staff Accompanist. Ms. Carpenter holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, and a double Master of Music degree from the University of Texas-Austin in Piano Performance/ Piano Pedagogy. Her principal instructors were Stella Kayser, Carroll Chilton, Jack Radunsky and William Race.

Ms. Carpenter was inducted into the Pi Kappa Lambda music honor society as an undergraduate. She was also listed in the "Who's Who of American Women, Millennium Edition" for her many contributions to the expatriate community as teacher, performer and concert series organizer during 13 years in Saudi Arabia.

Ms. Carpenter has maintained a private studio for over 20 years, and also works as a collaborative musician in the Tri-State area, having performed with the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, NATS competitors and solo recitalists. She is in demand as an adjudicator and has adjudicated for the Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia Music Teachers Associations. She is an active member of the West Virginia Music Teachers Association, Chair of District VI, WVMTA Board member, and has been granted the National Certification for Teacher of Music (NCTM) by Music Teachers National Association (MTNA).
