Shepherd University Music Department Hosts Visitation Day

Shepherd University Department of Music will host a Visitation Day on Monday, October 13, open to all high school juniors and seniors who are considering a degree in music. Students will be paired with current music majors to experience first-hand a typical day at college. Interested parents are also welcome to attend Visitation Day.

Shepherd University offers degrees in music education, music performance and composition. Areas of concentration include musical theater, jazz studies, and pedagogy. Shepherd University Department of Music has a mission to challenge its students to reach their potential by providing extraordinary experiences. Music majors have the opportunity to study with the region's most experienced performers and educators. Masterclasses are regularly offered with nationally acclaimed guest artists while touring the region. As a result of the high quality ensembles, Shepherd's students are invited to perform at a number of exciting venues. Invitations have been accepted from Giant Stadium, the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, in cathedrals around the world, and most recently Carnegie Hall in New York. The Jazz Ensemble and members of the vocal ensembles recently toured England this past spring.

With the University's close proximity to major metropolitan cities, there are countless opportunities to attend additional cultural events. Previous trips have included visits to hear the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Folgers Consort, Puccini's Madame Butterfly, and The Light in the Piazza.

During Visitation Day, students can attend classes, attend rehearsals, visit with the Shepherd music faculty, eat in the dinning hall, take a guided campus tour, schedule a private lesson and enjoy student performances.

If interested in attending or for more information, please contact Esperanza Alzona, music recruitment officer at 304-876-5711.
