Shepherd University Youth Orchestra Auditions

The Shepherd Preparatory Orchestra will hold auditions for its tenth anniversary season on Wednesday September 3 beginning at 6:00 p.m. for Senior Orchestra members and on Wednesday, September 10 for Junior String Orchestra members at the Shepherd University Frank Creative Arts Center in Shepherdstown, WV. Positions are open in all string sections in the Junior and Senior Youth Orchestras. Students auditioning for the Junior Youth Orchestra are asked to prepare a solo and scale of their choice to perform at the audition and should be able to sight-read music at a beginner to early intermediate level. Students auditioning for the Senior Youth Orchestra are asked to prepare a solo of their choice and will be asked to play scales and sight-read. Students wishing to audition for the Senior Youth Orchestra 1st or 2nd violin section should arrive to warm-up and sign up for a time slot by 6 p.m. Auditions will run from 6 -7:30. Viola, cello and bass section members should arrive to audition between 7:309 p.m. Junior String Orchestra members will audition from 6:30 8 p.m. on September 10th. Students will perform their audition on a first come first serve basis during the scheduled audition times. Other audition times may be scheduled with the consent of the orchestra director.

The Shepherd Preparatory Orchestra is beginning its 10th anniversary season at Shepherd University and meets Wednesday evenings for rehearsals throughout the school year. Each group also presents two concerts during the school year. The orchestra is made up of student members from Washington County, Maryland and Berkeley and Jefferson Counties in West Virginia as well as students from Shepherd University. The tuition fee for the Shepherd Youth Orchestra is $125 per semester and will include two free family member admissions to each concert.
