The Tender Land

The Opera Workshop of Shepherd University's Department of Music brings Aaron Copland's great American opera, The Tender Land, to life on Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19 at 8:00 p.m. in the Frank Arts Center Theater.

"The Tender Land" is a single night in the life of a family struggling in post-WWII middle America and the dreams of young Laurie, about to graduate from high school and go off to college. The Shepherd University Opera Workshop will present this production of "The Tender Land", in its entirety, complete with three of its most beloved works, "Laurie's Song", "Stomp Your Foot", and "The Promise of Living." The Shepherd University opera workshop production will be directed by Joseph Yates with musical direction by Dr. Erik Reid Jones, staged with costumes and other various technical aspects, and a minimal set.

Admission and seating for The Tender Land is on a first come-first serve basis and advance sales or reservations are not available. The box office will open one hour prior to each performance. General admission is $10, $5 for students 18 and under, and free to Shepherd students with Rambler ID and Friends of Music MAC Cardholders.
