Shepherd Preparatory Orchestra and Children's Chorus Concert
The new Shepherd Children's Chorus will conclude its premiere concert season along with the 10th anniversary performance of the Shepherd Preparatory Orchestra in the Frank Arts Center Theater on Wednesday, May 6th at 7:30 p.m.
The Shepherd Children's Chorus members are Rudolph Bakin, Beatrice Barrat, Ellie Didden, Sarah Fedorchak, Hannah Grim, Alisun Meske, Greta Meske, Haelly Ramirez, Kathryn Roemer, Derek Somers, June Wilcox, and Michaela Woodbrey. Their program, entitled "Conflict and Peace," with piano accompaniment by Molly Getsinger, features Bee! I'm Expecting You! by Emma Lou Diemer, an arrangement of Little Fox by Shirley W. McRae with Marie Crenwelge on clarinet, Orpheus With His Lute by Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Lo Yissa Goy by Shalom Altman, with Anrew Nicolette on guitar, and Brian Dawley on string bass.
The Shepherd Junior String Orchestra, directed by Heather Austin-Stone, includes Theo Akpinar, Jenifer Barbot, Amelia Curry, Olivia Gwise, Alston Liu, Laura Price, Hannah Swanson, Avery Younis. They will be performing Fiesta! by R. Anne Svendsen, Banana Boogie by Doris Gazda, and Richard Meyer's Bach Country Fiddles,
The Shepherd Preparatory Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. D. Mark McCoy and Stephen Czarkowski, will perform Franz Schubert's Rosamunde Overture, Georges Bizet's L'Arlesienne Suite , Johann Sebastian Bach's Sheep May Safely Graze, and Dmitri Shostakovich's Finale from Symphony No. 5, Op. 47. Orchestra members include Nate Lease, Joseph Blessing, Katrina Bushko, Taylor Cater, Maggie Chandler, Paige Flook, Tyler Frazee (concert master), Aurelie King, Kelsey Moore, Soo Joo Park, Erik Ryberg, Renee Shaw, Ryan Stewart, Angela Szymanski, Christina Thompson, Jack Younis, Adrielle Mills, DeVan Sample, Allura Warden, Anna Baldasarre, Elizabeth Kramer, Elizabeth Traversie, Richard Traversie, and Emily Brown, in addition to Shepherd University students.
The Shepherd Children's Chorus under the direction of Dr. David Gonzol, Assistant Professor and Director of Music Education at Shepherd, had its debut concert in January. Part of the Shepherd University Department of Music Preparatory Division, the Shepherd Children's Chorus membership is comprised of male and female vocalists in grades 3-8, and meets Wednesday evenings throughout the school year at the Frank Arts Center on the Shepherd University campus.
The Shepherd Preparatory Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Mark McCoy, is celebrating its tenth anniversary season at Shepherd University. Heralded as one of the best youth orchestras in the region, the group is comprised of middle and high school wind and string students from Washington County, Maryland and Berkeley and Jefferson Counties in West Virginia. The orchestra meets Wednesday evenings for rehearsals and presents two concerts during the school year. Enrollment is open and based on an audition process. Shepherd University Music Faculty string coaches for the orchestra are Heather Austin Stone and Jeffry Newberger for violin, Kathy Shrader for viola, and Stephen Czarkowski for cello. Wind, percussion and string players from Shepherd University also participate in the orchestra.
