Honor Band Concert

The Fifth Annual Shepherd University Honor Band Concert will take place on Sunday, January 11th at 3:00 p.m. in the Frank Arts Center Theater. Enjoy great music featuring outstanding high school students from the four-state region conducted by Dr. Mark McCoy, Chair of Shepherd University Department of Music, and guest conductor, Chris Allen. This past fall, area high school band directors were invited to submit recommendations of their finest students for the opportunity to represent their school in this experience that will allow them to make great music with other talented and serious musicians their age. A wide variety of works will be performed.

Chris Allen is the Director of bands and orchestra at Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, Maryland. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from the Tasmanian Conservatory of Music in Australia and a Masters in Music Education from Catholic University of America. Mr. Allen began his instrumental music experience as the principal trumpet of the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra and later as the principal trumpet of the Tasmanian Conservatory Symphony Orchestra. Each year that Mr. Allen has been at Walt Whitman, the orchestra, symphonic, band and jazz ensemble have received superior ratings at both county and state levels. The orchestra, jazz ensemble, and symphonic band received gold medals for performances in Atlanta, New Orleans, Quebec, Myrtle Beach, Toronto, Boston, and Orlando.
