Holiday Gala Concert

Classic sounds of the holiday season will be featured Annual Holiday Concert performed by the Shepherd University Wind Symphony, Chamber Singers, Camerata Singers, Masterworks Chorale and others at the Frank Arts Center Theater on Saturday, December 3 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, December 4 at 3:00 p.m. The Saturday evening performance will be followed by the annual Friends of Music reception at the Cress Creek Country Club.

Dr. Yu-Hsuan Liao and Dr. Scott Beard will perform a piano four-hands rendition of Waltz of the Flowers from Nutcracker Suite by P. Tchaikovsky. The Women's Camerata, under the direction of Dr. Erik Jones, will perform Benjamin Britten's A New Year Carol and Sweet Was the Song, as well as an arrangement by Dr. Jones of Hugh Martin's Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, accompanied on piano by Ms. Susan Carpenter, with Molly Getsinger conducting. The Chamber Singers, under the direction of Dr. Erik Jones, will perform Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day, accompanied by Molly Getsinger on piano, and Christina Schirf and Naomi Lockley on percussion. Jessica Adkins will be the featured soprano for Kenneth Leighton's Lully, Lulla, Thou Little Tiny Child, and Brian James will conduct Adolphe Adam's O Holy Night! with Nathan Arch on piano. Other selections include O Magnum Mysterium by Tomas Luis de Victoria, Gloucester Magnificat by Herbert Howells with Nathan Arch on organ, and Ukrainian Bell Carol arranged by Dr. Jones.

The Wind Symphony, conducted by Dr. Scott Hippensteel, will perform Brass Ensemble Fanfare - Psallite Unigenito by Michael Praetorius, O magnum mysterium by Morten Lauridsen and A Fireside Christmas by Sammy Nestico. Dr. Jim Walker, winner of the Friends of Music Tuxedo Junction auction, will be guest conductor for Leroy Anderson's Sleigh Ride. Dr. Scott Hippensteel will conduct the Wind Symphony and Combined Choirs for Leroy Anderson's A Christmas Festival and Dr. Erik Jones will conduct a Percy Grainger arrangement of Sussex Mummer's Carol. Finally, the audience is invited to sing along for Irving Berlin's beloved White Christmas with Dr. Scott Beard conducting.

General admission for the Holiday Gala Concert is $22 in advance and $27 at the door, $22 for faculty, staff and seniors, $15 for children 18 and under, and free for Shepherd students. Tickets to the Saturday evening reception are available for $10 to the general public. FOM Concert Series subscribers and Gold and Silver MAC cardholders are invited to attend the reception for free.
