Hansel and Gretel
The Opera Workshop of Shepherd University's Department of Music presents a new twist on Engelbert Humperdinck's classic opera "Hansel and Gretel" on Friday, September 24th and are September 25th at 8 p.m. and Sunday, September 26 at 7:00 p.m. Two children do battle with a carnivorous witch-the classic tale bent in the style of Tim Burton and partially told using shadow puppets is a completely original version of the glorious Renaissance opera that is sure to terrify audiences of all ages!
Hansel and Gretel is directed by Bryce Britton with musical direction by Joseph Regan, both adjunct faculty members at Shepherd University. Costume design is by Shepherd University Theater technician Christina Smith, with set, puppets and poster created by design student Julie West, and lighting and set design by Shepherd University Theater Technical Director Patrick Wallace. The show features the talents of Shepherd University students Christy Boudreaux, Jaely Chamberlain, Scott Donaldson, Lauren Frick, Lawren Hill, Joie Verheul, David Miranda, Megan West and Jillian Wiley, with stage management by Joshua Riese.
A preshow will begin at a half an hour and at fifteen minutes before curtain on show dates. Two of Shepherd's brightest directing students were tasked to create puppet shows based on Grimm Fairy tales. The Singing Bone was created, designed and directed by Misty Jett, and Rumplestiltskin, was created, designed and directed by Caryn Michaels. Directly following the show, a member of Shepherd's voice faculty will be featured, performing a song from the Music Department's spring production of Candide.

Admission and seating for Hansel and Gretel is on a first come-first serve basis and advance sales or reservations are not available. The box office will open one hour prior to each performance. General admission is $10, $5 for students 18 and under, and free to Shepherd students with Rambler ID and Friends of Music MAC Cardholders.
