Faculty Showcase Recital
The Shepherd University Friends of Music will present the first Guest Artist Concert of 2009, The Faculty Showcase Recital, on Saturday, February 14, 2009 in the Frank Center Theater of Shepherd University at 8:00 PM.
Following wide, public acclaim of the November 7, 2008 Guest Artist Concert featuring the incomparable Leon Fleisher, this concert will once again be an unforgettable evening. The spotlight will be on the brilliant artistry of pianist Dr. Scott Beard, French horn Daniel Carter, clarinetist David Drosinos, percussionist Dr. Michelle Humphreys, bassoonist Richard Polonchak, oboist Gregory Shook, flutist Anita Thesen, and soprano Elisabeth Turchi. These artists have performed for audiences in concert halls throughout the United States and around the world.
The program includes the works of Beethoven, Liszt, Verdi, Debussy, Poulenc, Farr, Mendelssohn, Mozart and Strauss.
"The faculty showcase has become a highlight of the season," said Dr. Mark McCoy, Music Department Chairman. "It is especially thrilling for me to hear such fine musicianship and know that it is on display for our students on a daily basis."
Rob Northrop, President of the Friends of Music said "It is always astonishing to me how truly remarkable our faculty musicians are. This is a great opportunity to hear styles of music which most listeners rarely hear -- a solo French horn recital, or the voice of a dynamic and exciting soprano. And on February 14 as well! What a great valentine present -- and so much healthier than a box of chocolates."
