Choral Ensembles with Brass!

The Shepherd University Chamber Singers, Masterworks Chorale, Men's Choir and Women's Camerata, and under the direction of Dr. Erik Reid Jones, will present Choral Ensembles with Brass! on Sunday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the Frank Arts Center Theater of Shepherd University. The program will feature some of the outstanding masterpieces of choral/brass literature, including Norman Dello Joio's "To St. Cecilia" and Trond Kverno's "Missa in Sono Tubae."

The Chamber Singers, under the direction of Dr. Erik Reid Jones, is a mostly a cappella ensemble, concentrating in masterpieces of the 20th century. The ensemble is made up of between 20 and 24 students each year. While most of the members are vocal majors, other music majors and students from around the campus are welcome to audition. The premiere choral ensemble of Shepherd University, the Chamber Singers will be touring Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic in May 2009.

The Masterworks Chorale, also under the direction of Dr. Erik Reid Jones, is an ensemble of 130 singers at Shepherd University. This ensemble is an outstanding "town-and-gown" choir, made up of students and community members, and performing mostly large-scale pieces with full orchestra.

Shepherd University's Women's Camerata is an ensemble of 30-35 female singers, under the direction of Dr. Erik Reid Jones, is made up of voice majors, music majors, and many students from other disciplines at Shepherd University. In May 2007, the Women's Camerata toured the south of England.

The Men's Choir is an ensemble of 12-15 male voices singing jazz, doo-wop, barbershop, and classical male choir literature. Directed by Joseph Regan, this newest of the Shepherd University vocal ensembles is welcome to all men on campus, regardless of major. Joseph Regan is a professor of voice at Shepherd University and Mount St. Mary's University. In addition to teaching Joseph has had recent engagements with New Moon Theatre, Harbor Opera and Opera Vivente, and is a full time member of the Men's Choir at the Washington National Cathedral.

Dr. Erik Reid Jones is the Director of Choral and Vocal Activities at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, and founder and artistic director of the Master Singers of Virginia. He received his Bachelor of Music degree summa cum laude in vocal music education at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, his Master of Music degree in choral conducting at the University of Cincinnati, and his doctoral degree in choral conducting at the University of Maryland at College Park. Locally, he has taught at Shenandoah Conservatory, Harford Community College, and the University of Maryland. Dr. Jones is a published author and an avid choral composer, with over twenty works to his credit.
