Choral Concert at Shepherd
Welcome spring with this semester's presentation of a cappella choral music by the Shepherd University Chamber Singers, Men's Choir and Women's Camerata on Friday, March 22 at 8:00 p.m. at the Frank Arts Center. Audiences will have the opportunity to hear some of the works to be performed on the Music Department's upcoming tour to France and Monaco in May.
Featured highlights from this concert include Men's Choir, Women's Camerata, the Concert Choir performing Norman Dello Joio's "To Saint Cecilia" with brass sextet, the Vocal Jazz Ensemble in their second full semester of work, and the Chamber Singers with Eric Whitacre's "Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine." The concert closes with a united finale, an arrangement of "I'll Tell My Ma" by artistic director Dr. Erik Jones.
The Chamber Singers, under the direction of Dr. Erik Jones, is a mostly a cappella ensemble, concentrating in masterpieces of the 20th century. The ensemble is made up of between 20 and 24 students each year. While most of the members are vocal majors, other music majors and students from around the campus are welcome to audition. Shepherd University's Women's Camerata is an ensemble of 30-35 female singers, comprised of voice majors, music majors, and many students from other disciplines at Shepherd University. The Men's Choir, under the direction of Dr. Robert Tudor, Director of Vocal Studies and Music Department Chair, is an ensemble of 12-15 male voices singing jazz, doo-wop, barbershop, and classical male choir literature.
General admission to the Choral Concert is $10, $5 for faculty, staff, Shepherd alumni, senior citizens and students 18 and under, and free to Shepherd University students and Friends of Music MAC cardholders. Admission and seating is first-come, first-serve basis and advance reservations are not accepted. The box office opens one hour prior to performance. For more information call 304-876-5555.
