Chamber Singers

Upcoming Choral Concerts

The Chamber Singers is the premiere choral ensemble of Shepherd University, under the direction of Dr. Erik Reid Jones.

Chamber Singers is a mostly a cappella ensemble, concentrating in masterpieces of the 20th century. The ensemble is made up of 24 students each year. While most of the members are vocal majors, other music majors and students from around the campus are welcome to audition. Auditions are held every April for the following year. Members of Chamber Singers are expected to demonstrate the highest levels of musicianship and singing ability, and must have been in another Shepherd ensemble for at least one semester before auditioning for Chamber Singers. Email Dr. Jones if you are interested in auditioning.

Recent works have included Aaron Copland's In the Beginning, Herbert Howells's Requiem, Frank Martin's Mass for Double Choir, Eric Whitacre's Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine, and Britten's Hymn to St. Cecilia.

In 2009, the Chamber Singers toured Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic, and in 2011 toured Spain, including a sold-out performance at the University of Seville. In 2013, the ensemble performed in France, including for over 2000 people at the Sunday 11:30 Mass in Notre Dame de Paris.

The ensemble rehearses MWF from 11:00 - 12:00, with weekly sectionals.
