SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Department of Music will present an afternoon performance of “Cinderella—A tale through the Ages” on Thursday, November 17, at 2:30 p.m. in the Frank Center’s W. H. Shipley Recital Hall. Under the direction of Melanie Regan, adjunct music professor, the program tells the story of Cinderella through the work of composers Rossini, Rogers and Hammerstein, Massenet, Viardot, and Sondheim. The hour-long semi-staged production with minimal costume and props will have piano accompaniment by Barbara Irvine. Admission is free and open to the public.
Performers are Morgan Huyett, Charles Town; Julie Wyant, Martinsburg; Jack Younis, Shepherdstown; Grace Guiney, Harpers Ferry; Allison Hollis, Frederick, Maryland; Helen Zumbach, Knoxville, Maryland; Tamira Patterson, Westminster, Maryland; Simone Reynolds, Suitland, Maryland; Mary Sullivan, Lexington Park, Maryland; Jamie Friedel, Abingdon, Maryland; Stephanie Proctor, Chantilly, Virginia; Alexandra Rosle, Harleysville, Pennsylvania; and Matthew Gray, Magnolia, Delaware.
Regan has performed as the mezzo-soprano soloist in the Rossini “Stabat Mater,” the Mozart Mass in C, the Bach “Magnificat,” the Vivaldi “Gloria,” and Mozart’s “Requiem,” among others. She has studied and sung with teachers such as Frederica Von Stade, Steven Rainbolt, Ruth Drucker, and John Shirley-Quirk. In addition to teaching at Shepherd and directing the opera workshop, Regan maintains a full voice studio at Saint James School in Hagerstown, Maryland, where she is stage director for the school’s annual spring musical, runs the Saint James Girl’s A Capella group, and provides assistance for a wide range of activities within the department.
