Music department to host Jazz-n-Java concert April 19

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Department of Music is sponsoring a night of Jazz-n-Java in a makeshift coffee house at the Marinoff Theater on Thursday, April 19, at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be offered free with admission.

The Charlie Parker Combo, directed by Kevin Pace, adjunct music professor, will perform “Donna Lee,” “My Little Suede Shoes,” “Confirmation,” and “Billie’s Bounce” by Charlie Parker, and “Star Eyes” by Don Raye and Gene DePaul, with Joanie Dyer on saxophone, Chris Goodridge on trumpet, Kayla Starr on vibraphone, Kevin Pace on piano, Sam Ellis on bass, and Ismael Salgado on drums.

The Shepherd Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Kurtis Adams, associate professor of music, will perform works by Neal Hefti, John Fedchock, Bob Brookmeyer, Hank Levy, Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer, and George Gershwin. The ensemble features saxophone players Jordan Shifflett, Joanie Dyer, Jackson Sharpe, Kyle Colliflower, and Shania Isenberg; trumpet players Sam Thomas, Caroline Hayden, Ashlee Leshinski, and Chris Goodridge; trombone players Kevin Grega, Rahael Termohlen, Arden Cline, and Kevin Dodson; and rhythm section Krysten McClure on vibes, Heidi Macaluso on piano, William Miller on bass, and Anthony Stoika on drums.

General admission is $15 for adults; $10 for Shepherd faculty, staff and alumni, seniors, and students 18 and under; and free to Shepherd students with a valid Rambler ID. Admission and seating is first-come, first-served and reservations are not taken. The box office opens one hour prior to the performance.
