Music department to host concert December 4 featuring student work

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The Shepherd University Department of Music will present a concert featuring the work of student composers on Monday, December 4, at 7 p.m. in the Frank Center McCoy Rehearsal Hall. The performance is free and open to the public.

The recital will highlight a variety of completed works, works in progress, and arrangements by composers in Shepherd’s music department. Students whose works will be performed are R. Michael Simpson, Martinsburg; Daniel Morris, Sharpsburg, Maryland; Nathan Strite, Williamsport, Maryland; Andalena Jackson, Hagerstown, Maryland; Samuel Bower, Middletown, Maryland; Samantha Vaughn, Frederick, Maryland; and Nemo Hirschberg, Front Royal, Virginia.

The program includes “A Simple Clarinet Solo” by Jackson; “Clarinet Quartet in F Aeolian” by Hirschberg; “Quartet for Two Marimbas (Four Players)” by Vaughn; “Rag for Our Time” by Simpson; “Lost in Thought” and “Weak 4 Peace” by Hirschberg; “Coexistence” by Bower; “Melody for Brass Quintet” by Morris; and “Simple Gifts for Woodwind Quintet” arranged by Strite.
