Music department presents small ensembles concert December 1

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The Shepherd University Department of Music will present a concert featuring the department’s small ensembles on Tuesday, December 1, at 8 p.m. in the Frank Center’s W. H. Shipley Recital Hall. The evening will highlight performances of a brass ensemble, flute ensembles, string ensemble, guitar ensembles, woodwind quintet, opera excerpts, and a men’s vocal ensemble. The concert is free and open to the public.

The program includes a brass ensemble performance of “Three Dances” by Tielmam Susata and “Seven Sailors on a Boat” by Rasmus Orskov; a string ensemble performance of “Trauermusick” by Paul Hindemith and “Fuga y Misterio” by Astor Piazzolla; a men’s vocal ensemble performing “Gaudete-Piae Cantiones” arranged by Craig Kingsbury, “His Eye is On the Sparrow” by Charles Gabriel, arranged by Derek Furch and Patrick Rose, and “Christmas Time is Here” by Vince Guaraldi and Lee Mendelson; a guitar duo performing “Monte Carlo” by Peter Madlem; a duet for percussion and voice titled “Ilium” by Konishi Kayo and Kondno Yukio; a flute ensemble performance of “Within” by Ian Clarke; a guitar trio will perform “Ah! si moine voulait danser” arranged by William Beauvais; a woodwind quintet will perform the first section of an unfinished wind quintet by Anthony Farris; excerpts from “The Mikado and “The Gondoliers” by Gilbert and Sullivan, and excerpts from “L’elisir d’amore” by Gaetano Donizetti; a Guitar Quartet performance of “Los Abejarucos” by Bryan Johanson; and a flute quartet performance of “The Fool Who Fell in Love with His Guardian Angel” by Anthony Farris.
