Washington Gateway Minutes
February 11, 1998

MSP to accept the minutes of January 28, 1998.
Budget Report: As of February 11, 1998, total funds spent and/or encumbered for 1997-98 were $80,953. The Foundation Fund is $4,058.20.
Course Proposals: No proposals were submitted to date.
Internship Scholarship: The Washington Center is a private organization that coordinates internships in Washington, D.C. The total cost per student is $5,600 per experience less $4,000 for the scholarship. After discussion regarding the scholarship and the $1,600 cost per student, it was suggested that Terrence O'Malley, the Appalachia Coordinator for the Center, be invited to the next Gateway meeting.
Operating Guidelines: MSP to accept the revised Operating Guidelines pertaining to internship awards.
Speaker/Travel Requests: Mr. Thomas Whitehead, chair of the Young Republicans, offered information to the Committee concerning the Oliver North speaker request. The committee also discussed speaker proposals from Mr. Bill Lucht (Maureen Bunyan/Ruth Coniff) and Ms. Rhonda Smith (Tom Nakashima), and two travel requests presented by the Nursing Dept.
Business: MSP to enable Ms. Kathy Dilley to charter a bus for the senior BSN nursing class to attend an Advisory Commission on Consumer Protection and Quality in the Health Care Industry in Washington, D.C. on February 26, 1998.
MSP to enable Ms. Laura Clayton to take associate degree nursing students to tour National Institute of Health in May.
MSP to enable Ms. Rhonda Smith's to spend $300 for speaker/guest lecturer, Tom Nakashima.
MSP to equally split the remainder of miscellaneous funds equally between Bill Lucht's request and the Young Republican's request ($200 a piece).
MSP to adjourn the meeting at 5:10 p.m. The next Gateway Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 11 at 4 p.m.
