Dan Starliper called the meeting of the Council to order.
It was MSP that the minutes of the December 8, 1998 meeting be approved.
They haven't met since last month. They will meet on Thursday. There is a possibility of changes in PEIA. PEIA has a large deficit and premiums and/or deductibles may be raised. There was discussion about a possible catastrophic leave bank to be used only by those who contribute to the bank. Our current system seems to be working well (with days transferred between employees). It is kept confidential as to who donates sick days. A new pay matrix committee is scheduled to meet this month. The current pay schedule intends to be fully funded by July 1, 2000. Any new matrix would take effect after this date. Employees are encouraged to follow legislative updates at http://www.scusco.wvnet.edu
SC BOARD OF ADVISORS:
STAFF DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE:
The 50/50 raffle during the Holiday luncheon netted $54. Cheryl Layton was the raffle winner. The scholarship application letter has been updated. Applications are attached. Please refer any possible candidates to this application process. Questions can be directed to Sandy Collier, Ext. 5363 or Ken Harbaugh, Ext. 5252.
The holiday luncheon went especially well this year with over 130 people attending. The jazz group provided nice entertainment.
COAT OF ARMS:
The SGA is proposing to create an official coat of arms for the college. The faculty senate has not endorsed this proposal yet.
The strategic plan is being revised and the committee will meet this Friday. Any classified staff members who have comments or concerns can address them to Melinda Landolt, Ext. 5419 or Barbara Maxwell, Ext. 5424. Our reps will be invited to give an update at our February meeting.
Governor Underwood declared another state holiday (December 24 and 31--1/2 + 1/2 = 1). It was MSP to recommend to Dr. Dunlop that the extra day count as a floating annual leave day. This would be added to the December leave totals.
SC MAGAZINE ARTICLE:
The Council would like to thank the Shepherd College Magazine and the Foundation Office for recognizing the success of the Classified Employee Scholarship Fund. Check out the complete article in the Winter 1998 issue.
There were concerns as to how overtime hours were distributed in the Maintenance department. Some feel as if those with seniority are not allowed to work the available overtime hours and that these opportunities were not properly posted.
The Council wanted to express extreme concern as to the safety of our employees and students on this campus (especially handicapped parking spaces) due to ineffective snow and ice removal this past weekend.
Farewells: Jamie Foor, Library
Kelley Shreiner, Library
Laura VanLiew, Academic Affairs
Darlene Willis, Cafeteria
William Wright, College Center
The next meeting will be Tuesday, February 9 @ 9 a.m.
