Services for Students With Disabilities

In order for any institution of higher education to provide accommodations under the American Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, students will supply Shepherd University documentation that verifies your specific disability. Usually these documents include the most current psychoeducational evaluation, high school IEP, 504 Plan, a psychologist’s evaluation, and/or medical evaluation. The accommodations that provided are within the guidelines of American Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and its subsequent amendments.

Typical classroom accommodations Shepherd University offers are:

  • Extended time on tests
  • Use of tape recorders
  • Isolation from peers during quizzes and exams
  • Note takers
  • Audiobooks & Ally Audio App available through Learning Ally
  • Other accommodations as deemed appropriate

Shepherd University requires a second language for those students enrolled in a BA degree, only with the exception of education majors. If you do enroll in a BA degree program requiring foreign language, documentation would be needed to verify the exception.
