Multicultural Student Affairs

Support

Multicultural Student Affairs assists students in developing a sense of purpose and direction for their personal, social, and professional lives through individual and group support.  Multicultural Student Affairs acts as a liaison between students and administrators, faculty, and staff, providing problem-solving negotiations.  Students and parents are provided with information and assistance related to financial aid, admissions, registration, and other institutional services.

The office advises and supports all students, but specifically traditionally under-represented students.   This includes students of color, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning students, international students and students with disabilities.

In addition, the office advises and supports student groups such as the United Brothers, Sistaz, Allies, and the International Student Union.

Community Relations

The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs collaborates with alumni, external agencies, community organizations, and local school systems on a number of initiatives. The Multicultural Leadership Team regularly presents workshops and leads discussions within the local public school system.

The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs works with County and State NAACP Chapters, Black alumni, the Berkeley and Jefferson County Diversity Councils, local service agencies and organizations, and elected officials to provide meaningful experiences for Shepherd students.

Mission and Vision Statement
The primary mission of the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs is to help prepare all Shepherd Student students to live, learn, work and succeed in a diverse society. Therefore, this office embraces all students and endeavors to create awareness, appreciation, action and advocacy around issues of race, gender, sexual orientation, culture, ethnicity, national origin, ability and religion through passive and active programs, speakers, lecture series and community service. The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs administers the Multicultural Leadership Scholarship program, and provides support and guidance to student organizations that promote the needs of under represented populations such as Allies, United Brothers, Sistaz and the International Student Union.
