4/9/12 -- President Shipley announces educational outreach opportunities at the University's spring assembly. The first challenge addressed is the capacity of the Shepherdstown campus. The Martinsburg Center is proposed with a hard target start date of August 2013.
11/30/12 -- The lease for 261 Aikens Center Martinsburg, WV is signed by the procurement officer of Shepherd University with HWA Enterprises in the Berkeley Commons. Shepherd will have space on three floors with instruction on the first and second floors. Meeting and conference rooms will also be available. The total square footage of the lease space is 15,811.
1/4/13 -- Dr. Diane Melby, interim vice president for academic affairs, releases e-mail update to the University community on center operations. It is identified that a center director, James Klein, has been hired. In addition, the recognition of an academic advisory committee has been announced. In addition, Dr. Christopher Ames has been introduced as the next vice president for academic affairs, and transition oversight of the Martinsburg Center to Dr. Ames from Dr. Melby will occur late in 2013.
1/18/13 -- Center Director James Klein releases his first update on the Martinsburg Center. In the e-mail, the campus is informed of the committees working to build processes and oversee academics. The Project Leadership Team, the Business Process Committee, and the Academic Advisory Committee are charged with helping build the infrastructure for the Center. The release of a core message is shared: Shepherd University's center in Martinsburg will provide quality, affordable higher education opportunities for working adult students. The Martinsburg center will bring the hands-on, personalized approach of a liberal arts university at affordable pricing well below the national average. The courses in Martinsburg will increase the number of people in the region with a college degree, giving regional employers a stronger workforce and attracting new businesses to the region.
1/31/13 -- Final drawings for the facility build out are due. The pre-bid meeting on the facility will occur on January 31 at 9 a.m. at 261 Aikens Center. Bids will be received through February 14.
3/28/13 -- Shepherd University -- Martinsburg Center's Director has released information on tuition reduction opportunities for local businesses that partner with Shepherd University. The Strategic Alliance Partnership may be arranged by contacting the Center Director, Jim Klein at firstname.lastname@example.org. The best part of the partnership is that it's offered to local businesses at no cost to the employer.
4/17/13 -- As of April 9, the project was 40% complete while calendars days used was at 39%. The week of 4/15 the contractor will be priming, painting, roughing in electric and sprinkler for the celling, and installing celling grid and tile. The construction schedule reflects 92 days with substantial completion on May 31,2013. Currently, the project is on schedule for meeting the substantial completion target date.
4/24/13 -- At the Higher Learning Commission meeting on April 15, 2013, the Institutional Actions Council (IAC) concurred with the panel's findings and approved the additional location, Martinsburg Center, 261 Aiken Center.
6/14/13 -- The City of Martinsburg accepts a Strategic Alliance Partnership with SUMC.
6/25/13 -- United Way partners sign a Strategic Alliance Partnership with SUMC in the first public reception held at the center. Local businesses and leaders were invited for a sneak peak before the July 25 at 4 p.m. grand opening and ribbon cutting.
