SHEPHERDSTOWN, WVShepherd University celebrated the opening of a Veterans Center with a ribbon cutting on February 10. Dr. Sylvia Manning, interim president, and Matt Garman, Student Veterans Organization president, cut the ribbon on the center, which is located in the Free School at 201 South Princess St.

The center gives student veterans a place to meet, study, and access services they need and is a demonstration of Shepherd’s commitment to meeting the 5 Star Challenge, an initiative that encourages all of West Virginia’s two- and four-year institutions to adopt a set of standards to help veterans achieve an education. Support for renovating and equipping the center came from the Shepherd University Leadership Circle.

The center is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Mary Beth Myers, veterans support services coordinator, has office hours there on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
