Lori Bower is well known in Frederick County as both a vocal music educator and as a pianist. She has been honored with the distinction of being the Washington Post Teacher of the Year for Frederick County and was awarded the Outstanding Music Teacher Award of Excellence by the Maryland Music Educators Association. She has performed as the piano accompanist for FCPS over the years for the All County Middle and High School Honors Chorus performances, as well as the Elementary Honors Chorus concerts. She also performs as a church organist and pianist and her original choral music compositions are performed in schools around the state of Maryland. She enjoys teaching piano and voice and utilizes many unique approaches of instruction including multi-sensory and movement based techniques. She has taught piano classes at the high school level and has created several piano labs throughout FCPS. While serving as Directors of Choirs, her choral groups have received superior ratings at district events and choral festivals and several of her students are now studying voice and music education/music performance at the college level.
Ms. Bower received her BS and MS degrees in Music Education, as well as a graduate certificate in Dalcroze, Orff and Kodály, from Towson University, and earned National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification in Music Education. She is a member of the National Association for Music Education and has served as a music educator clinician at state conferences.
