Course Reserves

Students

Reserves are supplemental course materials placed on hold by instructors and are located behind the Public Services desk, where, upon request, a member of the library staff will retrieve it for you. For quick and easy help when requesting a reserve, please provide the title and your instructor's name. Have your Rambler card availalbe for checkout.

Reserves can be searched in the Max Online Catalog. Click on the Course Reserve tab to search by Instructor, Department, Course, or Section. If a Reserve appears in Max, be sure to ask at the Public Services desk if the item is currently on Reserve.

Loan Periods

Loan periods vary, depending on the type of material and on the instuctor's pre-assigned time periods. The types of reserves are:

  • Library Use Only (one to two hour reserve) (fine if overdue: $.50 per hour)
  • 1 Day, 2 Days, 4 Days (fine if overdue: $.50 per day)
  • One or two weeks (fine if overdue: $.50 per day)

Please be aware that, due to the demand on Reserves, fines are considerably higher than for regular library materials. Fines are subject to change and will be posted at the Public Services desk.

Faculty

The Library accepts a variety of material for Reserve circulation, including books from the collection; instructors' books and other materials; photocopied articles; and audio or visual materials. There are a variety of loan periods: one-hour, two-hour, and one, two, four, seven, or fourteen days.

To help us serve you better, please observe the following guidelines:

  • Bring materials to the Public Services desk at lease three days prior to the time students will request them. A Faculty Course Reserve request form including a Copyright Fair Use Agreement must be completed each time materials are placed on reserve and is available both at the Public Services desk and online.
  • Please be selective and place on Reserve only those materials that will receive frequent or regular use, or will have so much demand during a semester that many students will compete for the same material.
  • Remove your materials promptly when no longer needed on Reserve. The Library may make some exceptions for courses taught every semester.
  • Please limit the number of items to 30 per course (multiple copies count toward the total). You may supplement this number during a semester by removing items and substituting others.
