Wireless
The Shepherd wireless network is available in Scarborough Library to Shepherd University students and employees. It is maintained by Shepherd University's IT Services.
To connect to the Shepherd wireless network, the laptop must first be configured. There are directions for configuring a laptop available on the main IT Services web page. For your convenience, there are instuctional packages with IT Services directions and the patch to install available at the Public Services Desk. Always refer to IT Service's web page for wireless information.
FAQ's about Wireless in the Library
- Where can I go to get help configuring my laptop?
You can go to either the Support Desk in Ikenberry Hall or to the Library's Public Service Desk. Library staff will only be able to provide basic assistance configuring a laptop, whereas the Support Desk will be able to assist with all issues.
- Who can help me configure my laptop?
IT Services' support staff can help configure your laptop. Library staff can provide basic help with configuring your laptop.
- Can I print from my laptop once connected?
Unfortunately no. IT Services has been working to implement a solution to allow wireless users to print to the Shepherd network printers. For more information about this, please contact IT Service's User Support at x5457 or support@shepherd.edu.
Until IT Services implements a solution to allow printing from wireless, here are two alternatives:
- Save the document to an external device - i.e. a pen drive, floppy drive, etc... then go to a computer lab, log into the computer and open your document from the external device.
- Save the document and email it to yourself, then go to a computer that has access to a printer, check your email and open your document.
- Can I access my Shepherd network drives from wireless?
Unfortunately no. IT Services has been working to implement a solution to allow wireless users to access the Shepherd network drive from their non-Shepherd (meaning, personally owned) laptop. For more information about this, please contact IT Service's User Support at x5457 or support@shepherd.edu.
- I'm a public/community patron/user. Can I connect to your wireless network?
Unfortunately no. Wireless access is provided for Shepherd University students, faculty, and staff.
- How long will it take to configure my laptop for wireless?
Some laptops can be configured in five minutes; some laptops take an hour or more.
- I tried configuring my laptop for wireless and it didn't work. What do I do?
Don't worry. IT Services' User Support or the Library's Public Service Desk can try to help.
- I had wi-fi working on my laptop and now it's not. What happened?
There could be several reasons why you're unable to connect to the Shepherd network now - you need Microsoft updates, your anti-virus may be out of date, etc..., IT Services' User Support Desk can assist you with these issues.
