Computers in the Library

Reference Lab Computers

These computers can only be used by students, staff and faculty members, and have Microsoft Office 2007, Matchware, SSPS 13, Adobe Reader 8, Quicktime player, Realplayer, Java Runtime Environment, Shockwave, Flash player, PowerDVD, Sonic, Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera installed.

There are nineteen computers which are all located on the second floor in the Reference area. Printing is available from these computers.

Public Computers

There are two computers available on the second floor in the Reference area for all patrons to use. There is a 20-minute time limit when other patrons are waiting; priority is given to Shepherd students. Printing is available from these computers, and both computers have floppy drives.

These computers have Microsoft Office 2003 Suite, Adobe Reader 8, Quicktime player, Realplayer, Java Runtime Environment, Shockwave, Flash player, PowerDVD, Sonic, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Foundation Grant Writing links and DeepFreeze installed. With DeepFreeze, any documents saved to My Documents or any other folder on the computer will be deleted once you log off or shut down the computer.

InfoXpress Laptops

There are five laptops which are all located on the second floor in the main lobby for quick access to the internet. Printing is available from these computers.

These laptops can be used by all patrons, and have Microsoft Office 2003 Suite, Adobe Reader 8, Quicktime player, Realplayer, Java Runtime Environment, Shockwave, Flash player, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera and DeepFreeze installed. With DeepFreeze any documents saved to My Documents or any other folder on the computer will be deleted once you log off or shut down the computer.

Language Lab

There are ten desktops which are all located on the first (Ground) floor. Printing is available from these computers.

These computers can be used by all Shepherd students, but priority is given to students needing to use the language software for class. Also, this lab may be closed throughout the semester for instruction sessions. The computers have Microsoft Office 2007, Rosetta Stone - SMS and non-SMS, Cyberlink, Sonic, Mediator, Acrobat Reader 8.x, Maple 9.5, SPSS 15, Quick-Time, Real Player, NetBeans 5.5, Respondus, Python 2.5.1, Blue J 2, and NVU.

OPAC Computers

These computers and laptops can be used by all patrons for looking up information in our Library Catalog and subscription databases (EBSCOhost, Lexis/Nexis Academic, JSTOR, etc.).

There are four OPAC computers. One is located on the first floor, one on second floor in the Reference area, and two on the third floor.

24-hour Room Laptops

These laptops can only be used by students, staff and faculty members, and have Microsoft Office 2003 Suite, Adobe Reader 8, Quicktime player, Realplayer, Java Runtime Environment, Shockwave, Flash player, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera and DeepFreeze installed. With DeepFreeze any documents saved to My Documents or any other folder on the computer will be deleted once you log off or shut down the computer.

There are two laptops which are located on the second floor in the 24- hour Room. Printing is available from these computers during hours when the entire Library is open.

Library Instruction Room 307 laptops

These laptops are used by students, staff and faculty members during instruction sessions. They have Microsoft Office 2003 Suite, Adobe Reader 8, Quicktime player, Realplayer, Java Runtime Environment, Shockwave, Flash player, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera and DeepFreeze installed. With DeepFreeze any documents saved to My Documents or any other folder on the computer will be deleted once you log off or shut down the computer.

Please note: these laptops are only available during scheduled instruction sessions.

Checkout Laptops

These computers can only be used by students, staff and faculty members, and have Microsoft Office 2003 Suite, Adobe Reader 8, Quicktime player, Realplayer, Java Runtime Environment, Shockwave, Flash player, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera and DeepFreeze installed. With DeepFreeze any documents saved to My Documents or any other folder on the computer will be deleted once you log off or shut down the computer.

There are twelve Windows-based laptops and two MacBook laptops that can be checked out at the Public Services desk. Printing is available from these computers.

Multimedia Computers and Apple iMacs

These computers can be used by all patrons for scanning documents and images, and have Microsoft Office 2003, Adobe Creative Suite, Paint Shop Pro (Windows only), OmniPage, Quicktime player, Realplayer, Java Runtime Environment, Shockwave, Flash player, etc.

There are two Windows computers and two iMacs on the second floor at the Reference Desk. There is one iMac in the 24-hour room. Printing is available from these computers during hours when the entire Library is open.

External Devices

External devices for computers are available for students, staff, and faculty members at the Public Service Desk for use within the Library:
