Researching Government Information, Politics, and Law
These guides will help you get started with finding the information you need, whether it's a report from a government agency, a document from Congress, a law, or the decision of a court. First you need to think a bit about what kind of information you're looking for. See if one of these is the kind of information you need:
- Federal Laws - statutes passed by Congress
- Congressional Documents - a report from a committee, or the transcript of a hearing
- The Presidency - information about presidential politics and the executive branch
- The Federal System - information about the U.S. Federal system
- Federal Agency Information - reports or data from agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency or the IRS
- Federal Court Documents - opinions from Federal cases
- Constitutional Law - background and opinions from Supreme Court cases
- Topical Research - learning about a particular topic or issue such as global warming or the Iraq war, and the law or the policy debate on that issue.
