FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS COLLECTION ACCESS POLICY
Scarborough Library has an open door access policy: anyone may use the library. Persons connected to the university and those who reside in West Virginia and are over 18 years old may obtain a library card and borrow materials.
When classes are in session, the Library is open for 91 hours a week. The Library has shorter hours in the summer and when the college is not in session.
The Federal Government Documents Collection is open to all students, faculty, and staff of Shepherd University as well as any person wishing to use it. The Documents Collection is located on the first (bottom) floor of the renovated library on open stacks. Only the CDs, DVDs, and floppies are kept in a restricted area. These may still be checked out.
Anyone with a Shepherd University library card may check out Government Documents. With the exception of microfiche, cataloged documents in Reference, and bound periodicals documents, all documents circulate. Paper and non-musical CDs circulate for 28 days. Videos can be checked out for 10 days. Government documents periodicals that are part of the periodical collection go out for one day. Users are welcome to use the non-circulating documents in the library.
Should a user from within West Virginia or from a nearby state request a government document that is part of the Depository Program, the Library will make every effort to obtain it through interlibrary loan. There is a $1.00 processing fee per request. This is the same fee that students are charged for any interlibrary loan request. If the user has a Shepherd University Library card, the material may be checked out unless otherwise stated by the lending library. If the user does not have such a card, the material must be used in the Library.
Every effort will be made to accommodate a disabled user. There is a ramp into the library. The elevator is open to all users. Should a patron need help finding or using a document, a staff member will locate and bring the document to the user. Assistance will also be provided for the online catalog and the public access computers.
Reference help is available for documents questions at the Reference Desk on the main floor. During the school year librarians are available at the Reference Desk from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday; 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday; and 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday.
