Curriculum Collection
The Curriculum Collection is located on the third floor of Scarborough Library. The collection consists of:
- subject textbook for grades K-12
- tests
- accompanying teacher’s manuals
- games
- activity books
- kits
- practice masters
These materials can be used to survey the skills taught in the various disciplines, to formulate lesson plans, or to create worksheets, exercise sheets, and planned activities for use in the classroom.
Finding MaterialsMaterials in the Curriculum Collection are shelved in the Library of Congress Classification. The Library of Congress classifies materials by subject and assigns each subject a letter or group of letters according to its classification schedule. One useful method for finding materials in the Curriculum Collection is to browse the shelves. Below are the major subjects found in the collection and their corresponding Library of Congress call numbers:

Using Curriculum materials
Curriculum Collection materials are utilized primarily by education students at Shepherd University and teachers in the local area. Curriculum materials may be utilized in the library during operating hours. Persons wishing to check out materials may do so for a 10-day period, with a current library card. Faculty, Staff, and students of Shepherd University, as well as residents of West Virginia may obtain a library card at the Public Services Desk.
The Youth CollectionLocated on the third floor of the library in the same alcove as the Curriculum Collection, the Youth Collection is a collection of children’s books containing over 2,800 volumes. This collection serves as a sample core collection of the typical school library. These books are cataloged under the Dewey Decimal Classification System and range in grade from pre-kindergarten to middle school, or up to age 13. A complete set of Newbery and Caldecott Medal books are part of this collection.
