Vision Statement
Scarborough Library strives to be a leading resource for information, innovation, and intellectual aspiration at Shepherd University and in the region.
Values StatementScarborough Library's values are the significant beliefs that guide us as we work towards fulfilling our vision and mission.
Scarborough Library values:
- The accumulated knowledge of the past;
- The ongoing collection of information and knowledge;
- Teaching and learning through open access to information sources;
- Exemplary service to our learning community;
- Diversity in library collections and staff;
- Creativity, innovation, flexibility, and imagination in meeting challenges;
- Integrity, truth, open communication, and full cooperation in all transactions;
- Respect for our colleagues and their work.
Scarborough Library contributes fundamentally to the teaching and learning mission of the University through
developing intellectual growth, personal fulfillment, and academic and professional excellence by:
- Responding to new and emerging needs of the academic community by developing innovative solutions;
- Acquiring, organizing, and preserving collections in various formats;
- Providing access to an array of information resources using technology via local and regional networks as well as other cooperative arrangements;
- Promoting the Library's resources and services to the University and community;
- Providing and maintaining a safe and open environment conducive to learning, research, and scholarship as well as cultural and recreational activities;
- Continuing to systematically assess the effectiveness of the Library's services and programs;
- Recruiting and retaining well-trained, knowledgeable and service-oriented staff and providing them opportunities for professional growth and development.
