Scarborough Library food and drink policy

Beginning with the Fall 2006 semester, the Scarborough Library permits users to bring drinks into the library on a limited basis. We want the library to be a more comfortable and welcoming environment in which our University community can come together, study and relax. We also recognize our responsibility to preserve our collections, equipment and furnishings.

To these ends, we ask that our users be responsible by drinking beverages from only the following acceptable types of containers:

  • Travel Mugs with secure lids
  • Screw top water and soda bottles
  • Sports bottles with built-in straws or pull-top plastic spouts

When not drinking your beverage, please keep the lid or cap closed.

The following types of containers are not spill resistant and are not allowed:

  • disposable paper and plastic cups with plastic lids
  • aluminum cans
  • open containers without lids

Eating is allowed only in the 24 hour room.

Smoking and chewing tobacco are prohibited throughout the building.

We expect our users, as responsible members of the Shepherd community, to comply with these policies. Library staff will remind users when they are not in compliance. Users who do not comply after being reminded will be asked to leave the building.
