Reserves are supplemental course materials placed on hold by faculty and are located behind the Public Services desk. Upon request, a member of the library staff will retrieve the item for you.
For quick and easy help when requesting a reserve, please provide:
- Title of material
- Instructor’s name
- Course number
Have your Shepherd University ID (Rambler) card available for checkout.
Students are able to see if there are reserve materials for their course by clicking on the Course Reserve tab in the Library Catalog. Students can search by Instructor, Department, Course, or Section. Ask at the Public Services desk if the item is currently available.
Loan periods are determined by the faculty member and vary from 1 hour library use only to 14 days.
The Library accepts a variety of material for Reserve circulation, including books from the library collection, instructors’ books, photocopied articles, and audio or visual materials. Items that cannot be placed on reserve include Interlibrary Loan materials and Netflix DVDs.
Loan period options include:
- One, two, or four hours (library use only)
- One, two, or four days
- One or two weeks
To help us serve you better, please observe the following guidelines:
- Bring materials to the Public Services desk at least three days prior to the time students will request them. A Faculty Course Reserve form must be completed each time materials are placed on reserve and is available both at the Public Services desk and online.
- Please be selective and place on Reserve only those materials that will receive frequent or regular use.
- Remove your materials promptly when no longer needed on Reserve. The Library may make some exceptions for courses taught every semester.
