SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — A leadership summit, titled “You Don’t Need A Title to Be A Leader: How Anyone, Anywhere, Can Make a Positive Difference,” on Saturday, April 9, at 5 p.m. in the Frank Center Theater will cap off the inauguration of Shepherd University’s 16th president, Dr. Mary J.C. Hendrix. The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature Mark Sanborn, an internationally recognized best-selling speaker and author on leadership, change, and customer service. The lecture is sponsored by the Shepherd University Alumni Association.
Sanborn has written several books, including the Wall Street Journal, Business Week, and New York Times bestseller “The Fred Factor: How Passion in Your Work and Life Can Turn the Ordinary into the Extraordinary.” He also wrote a book titled “You Don’t Need a Title to Be a Leader,” which details how anyone through everyday actions can act as leaders. Among the leadership skills Sanborn mentions in the book are acting with a purpose, listening to others, and encouraging others to contribute.
Sanborn is a founding professor of MentorU.com, an Internet learning company. He served as the president of National Speakers Association from 2003-2004 and received the Cavett Award, the National Speakers Association’s highest honor, and the Sales and Marketing Executives International Ambassador of Free Enterprise Award in 2007. Sanborn believes in the importance of leadership and skill training for individuals and organizations and in passing down the knowledge to inspire the next generation of leaders who will make a positive difference.
