SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — For Sherri Janelle, taking the newly created position of director of leadership gifts and manager of prospect development at Shepherd University means coming full circle. Janelle is returning to Shepherd after a 20-year absence.

“I’m very pleased to be returning to historic McMurran Hall after 20 years,” she said. “I worked for the admissions office, which was located in McMurran Hall at that time. I left in 1996 and have continued to work in some fundraising venue either in higher education or nonprofit work.”

Janelle served about 13 years as division director of the March of Dimes, then spent about five years at Blue Ridge Community and Technical College, where she helped establish the foundation. Janelle is a 1985 graduate of Elon University in Elon, North Carolina, where she worked in admissions right after graduating.

In her current position with Shepherd, Janelle will work to develop relationships between Shepherd and the community, raise money to support university programs, and help lead targeted fundraising campaigns. Janelle is a founding member and co chair of the membership committee of WISH (Women Investing in Shepherd), a women’s giving circle sponsored by the Shepherd University Foundation. Janelle said she looks forward to working with alumni and with business and community leaders to continue growth and development at Shepherd.

“It is great to be part of the college community with new leadership in Dr. Hendrix,” Janelle said. “There is a lot of growth going on, a winning athletic program, great academic programs, a thriving CATF, and a new residence hall going up. It’s just an exciting time to be here at Shepherd.”
