Free Norton AntiVirus |
If you do not currently have an up-to-date antivirus package, Shepherd provides Symantec Norton Antivirus free of charge to students. This can be installed on your home computer as well as the computer you bring to campus. Remember we require an up-to-date antivirus package if you plan to connect to Shepherd networks. |
| 1. Open Internet Explorer. |

2. Type in http://studentantivirus.shepherd.edu:8088 into the address bar, and
then press the Enter key. |
| 3. You will be prompted for your Username and Password. |
|
4. Enter Shepherd\your username in the Username box and your password
into the password box. |
| 5. Click on the OK button. |
| 6. Read the page which comes up and then click on the Install Now button. |
| 7. Click on the OK button in the dialog box. |
8. You may see a golden colored box appear under the address bar of your web browser stating "This site may require the following Active X
control: 'Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition...Click here to install".
Click on the bar once. |
9. Once you have clicked on the bar, you should receive
a pop-down menu. Click on the Install Active X control... option once. |
| 10. Click on the Install button on the dialog box which appears. |
11. This will run for a while. Once it is done, click on the hypertext
word here on the Symantec Web Deployment
screen to close this window. |
| 12. It will ask you if you are sure you want to close this window. Click on the YES button. |

13. The installation will continue running for a while longer without
showing you that it is. You will see a new icon, a gold colored shield
tilted to the right in your system tray located at the bottom right hand
corner of your screen. |

NOTE: You may see a box stating your definition files are out of date. Click on the Close button. Symantec AntiVirus will update itself on its own within a few minutes after installation. |

To see if the latest updates have been installed, double-click the gold colored shield icon in the system tray and the virus definition date will be displayed. IT Services suggests you check for LiveUpdates weekly by clicking on the LiveUpdate button. |
