Please practice safe computing

All faculty and staff computers on the Shepherd University network have Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition installed.

Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition updates the virus data file automatically. You probably will not even know the program is running (but it is there).

To make sure you have Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition....

Go to your  ---->   . A menu will show up.

Go to Programs ----> Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition

This will show you if you have Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition installed or not. If Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition in not on your computer call the User Support Desk right away at x5457.

Viruses can be:
  • sent in e-mail messages
  • contained in files people send to you
  • contained in files which are downloaded
  • embedded in sites you access on the web

  • Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition will alert you as soon as it finds a virus on your system.

If Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition finds a virus on your system call the User Support Desk at x5457 and let us know your system is infected and what kind of virus it is.

To scan your system for viruses....
It would be a good practice for you to run a full scan on your system at least once a month.
    This can be done by....

    Click on ----->

A menu will show up. Go to Programs ----> Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition -----> and double click on Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition as shown in the picture below.

This will open up Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition as shown in the picture below.

On the left side of the Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition menu look for Scan. This should have a [+] or a [-]. If it has a [+] next to Scan you will need to click on it so it expands the menu options.

When you click on the [+] you will see the options to Scan a floppy disk, or to Scan Computer. You want to Scan Computer.

After clicking on Scan Computer, the right side of the Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition screen will change. It should look similar to the picture below.

On this screen you will have the option to scan different computer drives and even network drives. You will need to click on the icon that is labeled [C:]. This is your computer's hard drive. After you have the C:\ drive marked it should look like the picture above.

After you mark all of the drives you wish to scan, click on the Scan button on the screen. This will start the scanning of your computer by Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition.

As your computer is scanned, you will see a new window; this is the Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition Scan window. Norton will scan all the files on your system one at a time. The window should look like the one that is shown below.

If a virus is on your system, Norton will try to clean the file(s). If it cannot clean the file(s), it will move the files off of your system, or even delete the files that have viruses. You should call the User Support Desk at x5457 and let us know you have a virus on your system and what kind of virus it is.

After the scan is done, if no viruses were found, close all of the Norton windows.
