Six Shepherd University students presented papers at the Second Annual Discovering the Humanities Student Research Conference September 15 at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland.
Student presenters were Elisha Pidcock, biology major, Shepherdstown, “The Biology of Jack London’s Literary Naturalism”; Claudia McCarron, English major, Charles Town, “Stranger Things and the Gothic Coming-of-Age Narrative”; Alexandra Rowe, English major, Martinsburg, “The Future is Coming On: How the Gorillaz Reflected the Concepts of Reality, Celebrity, Globalism in Music and Technology in the 21st Century”; Claire Tryon, history major, Martinsburg, “Suppression of Identity in Angels in America”; Lilli Sutton, English major, Boonsboro, Maryland, “Whitman’s Birds: Vessels of Tragic Awareness and Personal Voice”; and Jessica Perez, English major, Frederick, Maryland, “Life, Death and the Absence of God in Waiting for Godot.” Sutton’s paper won a prize for best presentation.
