IEPS MISSION STATEMENT
As a science department at a premier liberal arts university, the Institute of Environmental and Physical Sciences has a dual mission. Environmental Studies faculty have as their primary responsibility the preparation of a consistent number of majors educated within the various fields of environmental studies. Physical Science faculty have as their primary responsibility the education of all Shepherd students through the core curriculum program as well as the education of majors in various Departments and Schools through support courses. In addition, the Institute supports the University's core values of learning, engagement, integrity, accessibility, and community by faculty engagement in: scholarly activity as demonstrated by peer reviewed publications and presentations in learned forums; service appropriate to their expertise at numerous levels (including local, state, regional, and national); and sustained outreach to the Shepherd campus and the general public.
