Course Description: Course content includes writing a resume, cover letter, interviewing for the internship in addition to completing other requirements prior to enrolling in RECR 450: Recreation InternshipClose

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students in this course will be assessed on their ability to:
    • Understand general concepts involved in recreation and sport services
    • Synthesize the principals, concepts, and importance of recreation and sport culminating in a presentation to the class
    • Synthesize principles related to professional in recreation and sport
    • Render an understanding the management of risk as it pertains to the health and welfare of sport participants and spectators
    • Synthesize ethical practices as it applies to recreational and sport
    • Render and Utilize an understanding of the influence of recreation and sport on various cultures and regions of the world

Professional Standards addressed in RECR 449: COAPRT (NRPA)

7.01 (Foundations) Students graduating from the program shall demonstrate the following entry-level knowledge: a) the nature and scope of the relevant park, recreation, tourism or related professions and their associated industries; b) techniques and processes used by professionals and workers in these industries; and c) the foundation of the profession in history, science and philosophy.

  • Indirect Measure: RECR 449: Students in this course will demonstrate their intent to stay current on the trends and issues in Recreation and Leisure services through Organization Membership and Conference Attendance

Due to past results, recommendations, and revisions to the Assessment Plan it was determined that the addition of a reflection paper requirement would allow for an enhanced measure ot student learning regarding current issues and trends.
