RECR 407:

Management & Administration of Recreation and Sport

Course Description: This course prepares the student to manage sport, recreation, and leisure services in public and private settings.  Topics include public relations, personnel management, management theory, organizational structure, fiscal management, and evaluation processes.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students in this course will be assessed on their ability to:
    • Identify, define, apply, and differentiate between the theories of management
    • Demonstrate the ability to develop outcome oriented goals
    • Demonstrate the ability to identify and understand general functions of management
    • Demonstrate the ability to identify and define specific laws and legislation as they relate to recreation and sport.
    • Demonstrate the ability to evaluate a program in relationship to their written goals and objectives. 
    • Demonstrate their level of management and leadership skills
    • Demonstrate their management skills by problem solving real world issues related to recreation and sport:

7.03: (Management/ Administration) Students graduating from the program shall be able to demonstrate entry-level knowledge about management/administration in parks, recreation, tourism and/or related professions.

  • Indirect Measure: RECR 407 (Management Course): Management Workshop: Student proficiency in management/administration will be demonstration through the development of a workshop on current issues in recreation management
