RECR 324:

Sports Writing

Course Description: This course focuses on techniques of reporting, interviewing, gathering information, critical thinking, and writing techniques.  Practical experiences and writing labs are included.

Learning Outcomes

  • Students in this course will be assessed on their ability to:

    • Identify specific writing skills needed in sports journalism
    • Demonstrate an understanding of their individual writing skills.
    • Understand general concepts of written communication skills.
    • Demonstrate a clear understanding critical analysis and editing processes of journalism.
    • Identify areas of strengths and weaknesses in individual writing assignments.
    • Demonstrate the ability to evaluate peer articles in accordance with their written goals and objectives. 
    • Explore and identify community resources used in sports writing and journalism.
    • Demonstrate the ability to identify and understand general journalism in sports.
    • Demonstrate the ability to identify and define specific laws and legislation as they relate to sports journalism.
    • Demonstrate the ability to evaluate individual ethical practices in sports journalism. 
    • Understand the diverse opportunities for careers in sport journalism.
