SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University is hosting a lecture by Nicholas Redding, alumnus and executive director of Preservation Maryland, on the importance of historic preservation in building strong communities on Tuesday, April 3, at 7 p.m. in the Robert C. Byrd Center for Congressional History and Education auditorium. The Department of History’s historic preservation and public history program, George Tyler Moore Center for the Study of the Civil War, and George Washington Institute of Living Ethics are sponsoring the event, which is free and open to the public.
Redding coordinates Preservation Maryland’s daily operations and is a registered lobbyist directing the organization’s legislative advocacy efforts in Annapolis and Washington, D.C. He has also served as executive director of Long Branch Plantation in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, deputy director for advocacy at the Civil War Trust, and a park ranger at Gettysburg National Military Park and the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park. He has served on the Frederick County Historic Preservation Commission in Maryland and sits on the advisory board of the George Tyler Moore Center for the Study of the Civil War. Redding is a published author and frequently gives tours of Maryland and Pennsylvania’s battlefields and historic towns.
