Shepherdstown, WV
July 21&22nd: Days of Action
|
|
On July 22, 2004 there will be coal-promoting workshops held in
Shepherdstown, WV as a part of the WV Energy
Roadmap Series. We are organizing our own event to counter this
effort. Citizens from across the state and region are planning
our own roadmap to be in Shepherdstown that day to show the wrong
turns our area has made with how it mines coal. We will tell of
personal experiences with coal, we will spew the truth about
polluting coal-fired power plants, we will cut Mountaintop Removal
down to size, and we will do it all with style.

On the Menu for JULY 21st
APPETIZER: Driving up to Shepherdstown with the fine folk
that you surround yourself with.
How Can You Get to Shepherdstown?
MAIN COURSE: Julia Bonds of Coal River Mountain Watch will be putting on
a presentation of her and others' experience with living alongside extensive
coal mining in Southern West Virginia. She is a sixth generation West
Virginian and winner of the Goldman Prize, which is basically the Nobel Prize
for environmentalists. This event will be held in Reynolds Hall on Shepherd
University Campus starting at 6 PM.
DESSERT: That's right, dessert. There will be a concert that evening
featuring folk and bluegrass music of the good artists that put together the
"Moving Mountains" CD. Don't forget spare change and a checkbook because
this will be a benefit show! This will also be held in Reynolds Hall starting at
7:30 PM.
REST: You'll have a variety of places to stay in the local area. Most will
probably be camping at the KOA campgrounds, but there is also a
hostel and hotels to choose from.

July 22nd
The Rally
We will be rallying together from 1 PM to about 4 PM in Shepherdstown. This
rally will host speakers, music, and a Q & A session with coalfield residents. This rally will
feature speakers from the Sierra Club, OVEC, coalfield residents, and local activists.
