Master of Music, Music Education at Shepherd University is a thirty-credit hour degree program that offers a high level of specialization designed with the needs of currently employed music educators in mind. The program can be completed in two years. All students in the program will take a nine-hour core that includes courses in history, theory, and research. Students will also be required to take nine hours in education, including two education courses and three hours of practicum (including portfolio review). Finally, students will choose an emphasis in elementary, choral, band, or orchestra and will complete the degree with nine credit hours in their area of specialization. A recital/project or a written thesis will be required as the culminating project for the degree. Projects can include conducting or accompanying performances. The graduate advisor will closely monitor the thesis.
| "Never before have I ever been so drawn in to a class. It required a lot of in depth work but I enjoyed every minute of it. It did not seem like work. Everything we did was so applicable to my job. I had to force myself to step away from my work to go to sleep. This has been the most thought provoking, meaningful class of my entire education thus far. I can't wait for the next class." |
