The Master of Arts in Teaching is a 39-credit hour program of study that provides students with a comprehensive education that will enable them to become successful educators. This program will lay the foundation to produce graduates who are knowledgeable, competent, accountable, and ethical. The overall goal of this program is to lead to initial certification and also provide an opportunity for prospective teachers to engage in professional education and decision-making based on inquiry and reflective practice in order to meet the challenges of the ever-expanding educational, social, and political responsibilities of the teaching profession.
The Master of Arts in Teaching degree involves initial certification, and therefore, is subject to policies and procedures beyond those found in other graduate programs. Refer to the Graduate Student Admissions Criteria in section two of this catalog for admission requirements specific to the MAT.
