Description of the Program
The M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction is a 33 credit hour graduate program. Each student in the program takes the following five common core courses (15 credit hours) in pedagogy and instruction :
EDUC 500. ADVANCING THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOM
EDUC 501. METHODS OF EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH
EDUC 502. CURRICULUM AND PEDAGOGY
EDUC 503. READING IN THE CONTENT AREA
EDUC 504. STRUCTURES OF EFFECTIVE STUDENT ASSESSMENT
In addition to these advanced courses in education, each student in the program takes graduate elective courses in one of seven content areas:
Art
Elementary Education
English
General Science
Mathematics
Physical Education
Social Studies

The final course of the program is a three credit hour action research thesis in which students use data derived from their own classroom experiences as the basis of a substantial final project.
