The M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction is a 33 credit hour graduate program. Each student in the program takes the following five common core courses (15 credit hours) in pedagogy and instruction:

EDUC 500. ADVANCING THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN THE CLASSROOM
EDUC 501. METHODS OF EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH
EDUC 502. CURRICULUM AND PEDAGOGY
EDUC 504. STRUCTURES OF EFFECTIVE STUDENT ASSESSMENT
EDUC 523. DIVERSITY AWARENESS AND COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE

In addition to these advanced courses in education, each student in the program takes graduate elective courses (15 credits) in one of seven content areas:

Art
Elementary Education
English
General Science
Mathematics
Physical Education
Social Studies

Comprehensive Exams: Students, who are admitted to the MACI Program after January 2009, must complete and pass comprehensive exams. Students are eligible to take comprehensive exams after completion of all core and content course work excluding EDUC 580 - Action Research Thesis Experience. Completing and passing comprehensive examination is a prerequisite for EDUC 580 and is also a graduation requirement.

The final course, EDUC 580 - Action Research Thesis, of the program is a three credit hour action research thesis in which students use data derived from their own experiences as educators as the basis of a substantial final project.
