The McMurran Scholars Association

The McMurran Scholars Association, sponsored by the Foundation, promotes and honors scholarly inquiry and academic excellence among those students who have received Shepherd University's most prestigious honor, the McMurran Scholar award. The organization seeks to model applications of scholarly work both on campus and in the wider community, provide networking opportunities among its members, and mentor current Shepherd students.

The McMurran Scholars Association welcomes all McMurran Scholars interested in donating their time and talent to the organization. In addition to mentoring, you can help by attending quarterly meetings, plan events such as the annual McMurran Scholars Convocation each spring, or simply make a charitable donation to support the annual McMurran Scholars Association Scholarship for deserving Shepherd students

A resource directory is being compiled and all interested McMurran Scholars are asked to complete an information form. The directory will allow Shepherd faculty to utilize scholars in the classroom and for other student mentoring activities currently in development.

For more information about the McMurran Scholars Association, visit their web site or "like" them on Facebook. To complete a resource directory form, please contact Robert Shaw at the Foundation at 304-876-5195.

The Rural Financial Planning Project

Supporting Shepherd's major in business administration with a concentration in financial planning are local professional financial advisors who are also members of the Rural Financial Planning Project (RFPP). Led by Shepherdstown’s Rob Hoxton and an advisory board of regional financial planning professionals made up of alumni and friends, the mission of the RFPP is to improve the lives of rural Americans through the promotion of financial literacy and the delivery of financial planning by well-trained and ethical financial planning professionals. The program is committed to providing mentoring, internships, scholarships for students and professional development opportunities for faculty. As a result, several named funds have been created to support Shepherd students and faculty. To learn more, visit the RFPP web site.
