The Scarborough Society Celebrates 10 Years!
The Scarborough Society Board of Directors at the organization's
10th anniversary celebration
Tthe Shepherd University Scarborough Society celebrated its 10th anniversary on August 23, 2012, with a public reception and open house preceding the organization's annual meeting. The commemorative event also recognized the Society’s partnership with Library staff and their commitment to developing information technology and resources for Shepherd students, faculty, and the surrounding community over the past decade.
The library took advantage of the event to showcase its newest equipment and resources, funded in part by the Scarborough Society. Highlights included the unveiling of The Center for Teaching and Learning’s new EduTech Center, providing a training lab area that students, faculty, and future teachers may utilize to learn how to use innovative technologies in a classroom setting. Also on display was the new ScanPro 2000, which allows for the digitalization of the library’s collections, along with a new collaborative lab with additional computers and redesigned workspaces, and four new 42-inch screen LCD monitors the third-floor group study rooms.
Dean Ann Watson also unveiled a special gift to the library in the form of a READ poster featuring members of the Scarborough Society's board of directors posing with their favorite books. Dean Watson hopes the poster represents the first in a series that the library will produce featuring various groups of distinguished scholars from the Shepherd community. The American Library Association’s READ series encourages young people to read for the sheer enjoyment of reading.
